Juhannus (Mittumaari in the old finnish language) is the Finnish Midsummer celebration at the end of June. It's a festival of light and in the middle of summer season.

The most common midsummer traditions are going to Midsummer Eve sauna, burning a bonfire (Kokko in finnish), dancing and experimenting with Midsummer magic. All under the finnish Midsummer Sun, that famously doesn't set at all, especially in the North.

In Juhannus, the most common purpose for the magic was to find a spouse. The traditional magic spells of midsummer vary in different parts of Finland, but the most popular magic is where you place 9 different flowers under your pillow at night, or dance around in the field of rye completely naked.
Flower crowns are a staple of the Midsummer look, and flowers were not only for your head, but the households as well were decorated with fresh flowers and plants.

Juhannus eli vanhalla kielellä Mittumaari, on valon ja keskikesän juhla, jota vietetään kesäkuun lopussa.

Tyypillisimpiä perinteitä oli saunominen, kokon polttaminen, tanssiminen ja taikojen tekeminen erityisesti keskiyön auringon alla, sillä tunnetusti Suomen keskikesän aurinko ei laske. Mittumaarin yleisin taikojen tarkoitus oli puolison saaminen. Suosituin näistä taioista ovat 9 kukkaa tyynyn alla ja ruispellolla alasti kirmailu. Lehmä on merkittävin eläin Mittumaarin aikana. Lehmää käytettiin taikojen luomisessa ja sen antimista tehtiin juhannus ruokia, joista tärkein on juhannusjuusto.

Kukista tehdyt kruunut ovat tunnistettava piirre Juhannus-asulle, ja niinkuin hiukset, myös koti ja piha koristeltiin luonnon kasveilla kuten kukilla ja tuoreilla lehvillä.
